Tolero Pharmaceuticals

OPEN FOR 2020

Location:
Tolero Pharmaceuticals, Lehi, UT

Time Frame of Internship:
2020 Spring/Summer term. Please negotiate start and end dates with provider.

Description:
Tolero Pharmaceuticals is an oncology-focused drug discovery and development company combining unique and proven preclinical development efficiencies to advance novel and effective therapeutic agents. Tolero’s approach enables development of novel therapeutics on a dramatically shortened time frame and at a much lower cost than traditional drug development. There are internships available within the following departments at Tolero: Discovery Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Biomarker Development. The purpose of these positions is to assist with experimental design and execution, data analysis, and general laboratory responsibilities. These procedures allow for an efficiently functioning laboratory to produce quality data that will translate into publications and, most importantly, advances in the clinic.

Interns will be expected to work effectively with colleagues, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. Candidates should be aware of standard laboratory techniques, and may or may not have practical experience with these techniques. The intern will be responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, QC, data analysis, and communication of findings with other groups. The intern is expected to assist in the preparation and presentation of data in laboratory meetings. Under supervision, the intern will develop and optimize sample preparation procedures, develop good laboratory practice protocols, work collaboratively with fellow associates to ensure timely analysis and reporting of research results, and keep detailed logs of experiments and report scientific findings through write-ups, presentations, posters, and manuscripts.

  • Fellows receive a stipend of up to $8000 for 15 weeks of full time research (40 hours a week). Amount varies on length of fellowship.
  • Must fill out weekly spreadsheet/log to update SCCR on progress.
  • All fellows will submit a 10 minute video presentation during the last week of the fellowship.
  • Each fall the SCCR hosts a Donor Appreciation dinner. If invited, you will need to attend and be prepared to present your research. The SCCR will print your poster for you and cover the expense.
  • Each spring the SCCR and Cougs Vs Cancer Club host the Rex Lee Run. Please be prepared to volunteer at that event.
  • As this is an entry-level position, no prior degree or experience is required. However, some prior lab experience is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and any imaging software packages used to prepare figures for publication.
