Travel Grants

Simmons Center travel grants are for fellows traveling to a meeting in which the results of their Simmons Center funded-research are being presented. The Simmons Center must be acknowledged in the student’s slides or poster as the funding source.

The Simmons Center will reimburse half of the total cost of the trip up to a max of $1,000 for a fellow’s travel to one professional meeting per calendar year.

Qualifications: To apply for a travel grant, please download a copy and fill out THIS form.

  • Your form needs to be completed PRIOR to traveling in order to get approval for reimbursement from the Simmons Center Director.  Please email completed form to sccr@byu.edu
  • After you've received approval, students need to have an active travel application open in chromeriver and book their airfare through BYU travel. Please fill out a travel application in the Chemistry Business Office (214 NicholsBuilding).
  • Following travel, the student should submit a 500 word summary of his/her experience at the meeting to be given to donors who provided this funding. It should include such things as: How did you spend your time? What session, sections, meetings, seminars, symposia, and/or mini-symposia did you attend? What new information did you learn that will be helpful to you in continuing your current cancer research? What people did you interact with and how effective was your networking? How will your experience at this meeting benefit you in your future schooling and/or career?
  • Upon returning from the meeting, the student must also submit his/her receipts for meeting registration, travel, housing, and/or food for which reimbursement is requested (up to $1000) within 30 days of traveling.  Receipts received after this time may not be accepted. Please email receipts to teresa@chem.byu.edu
