Cancer Research
My research program focuses on precision exercise oncology and seeks to understand how exercise can be prescribed with the same level of precision increasingly applied to pharmacological therapies in cancer. Although exercise is becoming an important component of cancer care, current exercise prescriptions are typically based on external measures such as workload, heart rate, or aerobic capacity despite substantial biological heterogeneity among individuals living with and beyond cancer. My laboratory investigates how molecular and physiological responses to exercise differ between patients and seeks to define the biological dose of exercise through approaches that integrate exercise physiology, metabolomics, proteomics, and immunometabolism.
A central goal of the laboratory is to determine how the biological dose of precision exercise influences metabolic and immune pathways relevant to cancer progression, treatment, and survivorship. Our research focuses on the intersection of exercise physiology, immunometabolism, and cancer biology, with particular interest in how exercise-induced changes in immune-cell function may contribute to anti-tumor immunity. As immunotherapies continue to transform cancer treatment, we seek to identify molecular and immune signatures of exercise response that can inform personalized exercise prescription and guide future strategies that integrate exercise with cancer therapies. Through this work, we aim to advance precision exercise oncology and improve outcomes for individuals living with and beyond cancer.
